Buurck - Buurck EP

Six'na half minute s/t EP that's made up of 8 tracks and one of the most severe combinations of blue-ball induced boredem and booze the world has ever seen. Also one of the crustiest and random...

Raw Radar War/Deer Creek split

If you have a spare five dollars and some extra for shipping, you have no excuse not to buy this vinyl record off of CM distro's clearance section. Anyway, this kickass split features two relatively unknown bands, Raw Radar War and Deer Creek. RWR floats somewhere in between (crusty?) Sludge/Doom and (metallic?) Hardcore. Sludgecore? idkaidgaf. Deer Creek is a bit more Doomy overall, although I wouldn't call them trad. Doom. Very dirty rockin' with a sense of humour and a cool last cover, kudos if you know which two songs are mashed together and shame on you if you don't.

Starkweather discography

in the early works in particular, like listening to a sludged up punk version of Black Sabbath and Morbid Angel.

Moloch - Moloch

Moloch is based in the UK, playing some pretty damn grimey Sludge/Doom. This is their self-titled EP, released in 2008 via shifty records (and still available). Four tracks who trudge along in British waste, with some handsome hardcore shifts inbetween, supported by very potent vocals.

Earth - Pentastar: In The Style of Demons

Probably my favourite Earth record, right after Hex. Don't expect any mammoth drone'd out riffs here, guys. This is more of a fuzzed-out (seriously, this has more distortion than your average kvlt Black Metal record), too-slow-to-grab-my-spliff country-ish/desert-ish rock record with a fantastic Hendrix cover and too minimalist tracks in between. I bought this on vinyl on a whim, too, mainly because of the album art. And for some reason, it just makes fucking sense. It has everything you'd expect considering Carlson's environment and background.

Widely available on eJew, vinyl and CD version for cheap on Subpop Records website.

Earthride - Taming of the Demons

Earthride fit in the 'Southern' Doom Metal category, although not necessarily in the style of bands à la Down, Beaten Back To Pure, Weedeater etc. They have a pretty good grasp on Doom itself but add a bit of a biker touch to it, with throat-rippin', alcohol-drenched vocals (not unlike Dixie's), a heavy rhythm section and exciting leads overall. "Satan on my shoulder, might as well stride me by!"

CD version still available from SouthernLord and drifts on and off on eJew.

Mourn - Mourn

Mourn is a Traditional Doom band from the UK. They have a very laid-back, not-too-heavy-on-the-Sabbath sound and are very solid, mournful and rocking overall. They had a rough couple of first years with several line-up changes whilst the nineties UK doom scene itself was (r)evolving and beginning to grow the bands we know now, but eventually got back to their classic line-up with a female vocalist. Some people will find her voice something to get over, but trust me, when you hear it click, it is pretty awesome. I bought this on vinyl myself on a whime some months ago, thought I'd share it with you guys. Not my upload.

Still available in both CD and vinyl format from RiseAbove Records!

Gróa Willing - Vedrfolnir (Demo) (2009)

First demo from Gróa Willing, some kind of acoustic-whatever bunch of cool songs dealing with themes and personas within Norse Mythology, particularly a darker version of Svipdag's journey.
It's acoustic music with both harsh vocals and echoing clean voices, raw production and an almost post BM feel to it in some instances.
Soothing shit.

Griftegård - Psalmbok

Doom. Really fuckin good doom from Sweden, 2004-present.
that's about all the info you need, but I'll also say that the vocals are particularly killer.

Sex Type Thing - Discography

stoner rock with a lot of metal influence. it's almost impossible to find information on the group what with their name being identical to a super-popular Stone Temple Pilots song.

2001 Demo
2005 EP
2009 EP

for the memory-stingy, the 2005 EP is the best.

The Seatbelts - Cowboy Bebop: Vitaminless

Posted this on my own blog, figured I'd repost here. Variety of genres represented here, and by far one of the best soundtracks an anime could have (especially since 99% of anime is shitty).

Great experimental Death/Black Metal band. And I use "experimental" NOT in the gay hipster opeth bull shit! This is a legitimate band that doesn't pull the experimental card to make up for their shit.
